Creating a Team of A Players – Resiliency
On Tuesday of this week as Alexis (my wife), was walking into Kroger for our weekly grocery shopping a man approached, an Artist, a peddler of sorts, wanting to sell some of his work to Alexis for $5. Alexis, an artist herself and always willing to spare a few bucks to help someone along, dug in her purse to find she only had $2. It was not enough to buy one of the drawings from the man. The man, quick-witted enough and seeing an opportunity offered her a poem for $2 instead of the artwork. It seemed like some sort of typical peddler transaction, except when she read the poem and shared it with me. After reading the poem, we thought that maybe in her attempt to help this man – just maybe the real purpose was actually set up to serve and help us. Instead of us being the givers, the poem and this man was the real gift, to us.
You see on Monday of this week our building caught fire. Noone was hurt, but the damage to an old building like this caused the Fire Marshal to declare it condemned. It was a surprise for sure, but we are not allowing this to be a catastrophic event in our business, more of an inconvenience that will turn into a blessing.
Part of operating a business or just living life comes with inconvenience, disappointments, pain, and things out of our control that we must adapt to because we have no other choice. However what we CAN DO and CONTROL is how we react to these situations and keep faith in the future.
The resilience to move forward from something like a fire is not about us. It’s about anyone pursuing a worthy goal, and I hope to someone reading this, if only just one person, that this message is that little bit of encouragement you need, or maybe the sign you have been waiting on. What if the poem we received in a Kroger parking lot, the week our building caught fire, was so that we could share it with you?
Climb ‘Til Your Dreams Come True
Often your tasks will be many,
And more than you think you can do
Often the road will be rugged
And the hills insurmountable, too..
But always remember,
the hills ahead
Are never as steep as they seem,
And with Faith in your heart
start upward
And climb ’til you reach your dream,
For nothing in life that is worthy
Is ever too hard to achieve
If you have the courage to try it
And you have the Faith to believe
For Faith is a force that is greater
Than knowledge or power
or skill
And many defeats turn to triumph
If you trust in God’s wisdom and will…
For faith is a mover of mountains,
There’s nothing that God cannot do,
So start out today
with Faith in your heart
And “Climb ‘Til Your Dream Comes True”!
We are going to keep showing up to do the Day-In Day-Out work, enjoying the process and to keep our faith in the future. Are you?
